There are a few tools that everyone should carry in their vehicle in case of needed repairs while on the road.  Some of these tools include jumper cables, flares, a portable air compressor, a set of wrenches and sockets.

This portable digital impact wrench, called the Digiwrench, is an invaluable tool to carry in your vehicle. The DigiWrench, a Digitally Controlled 12 Volt DC DIY Impact Wrench, is the only impact wrench of its kind in the world.  It allows you to digitally select your desired amount of torque. It has a 1/2” drive 250 Ft-Lbs ratio. With 4 socket sizes, you don’t have to worry about it being a perfect fit. The sockets themselves are specially designed to compensate for over and under tightening. The Patented Digital Torque Control with LED display will allow you to easily adjust the torque settings according to your needs. The Patented clutch system works to prevent backlash and to reduce overall power consumption. And just in case, it comes with a replacement fuse. The Digiwrench has a 12 foot cord with a cigarette lighter adapter and comes in a blow mlod case.

This Digiwrench will make changing a flat tire much easier.  Check out this tool and other vehicle accessories at our online store snjcarcovers.com.

Prevent Vehicle Damage from Hail

In many areas, including Northeastern Pennsylvania where we live, this is the time of the year when thunderstorms are frequent and are sometimes accompanied by hail.  If the hailstones are small, they don’t pose a threat to your vehicle, but occasionally, the hailstones are large enough to do major damage.

Such was the case in New York state where my sister lives.  She had purchased a new car in January following an accident which totaled her other vehicle.  She doesn’t have a garage, so her car is unprotected from the elements.  Two weeks ago, there was a severe thunderstorm with hail larger than silver dollars.  My sister’s car was pelted with these large hailstones, and as a result, she now has over $8000 in damage.  She has to have her car’s hood, roof and trunk lid replaced.  She said that she wishes she had purchased one of our deluxe car covers.  With four layers of fabric, the cover would have protected her new car from the hailstone damage.

Once the repairs have been done, my sister plans to keep her car covered when she isn’t using it.  What an expensive lesson to learn – thank goodness for car insurance!

That Darned Cat Follow-Up

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a cat that I called “That Darned Cat” because he wanted to sit on the hood or roof of our truck if we left our garage door opened.  We had purchased the largest size Deluxe Elite Supreme SUV cover to try on our truck.  Since it has a cab-high cap on it, a regular truck cover won’t work.  Well, we finally got a chance to try this cover out, and as you can see from the picture, it is a great fit!   Now we can leave our garage door opened all day while we work outside, and we don’t have to be concerned about that darned cat putting scratch marks on our truck!

The day we put the cover on, we had to leave for a few hours and didn’t have a chance to put the truck back in the garage before we left (we were driving our second vehicle).  While we were gone, we had a downpour.  This was also a good test for the water resistant feature of the Elite Supreme covers.  We are pleased to report that this was also a successful (even though unintentional) test which our SUV/truck cover passed with flying colors!

Proper Interior Car Care

We have always taken great pride in caring for our vehicles both inside and out.  This not only makes you feel good to be riding in a nice car or truck even when years old, but it also adds to the resale value when the time comes to trade or sell.

We are getting ready to sell our 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, so we are in the process of getting it cleaned inside and a fresh coat of wax on the outside.  We were so pleased that the interior of our truck is still like new because of the care we have given it.  We would like to share with you some of the things that we have always done with our vehicles (most have been trucks!) to keep them in such great condition.

First of all, my husband is an avid deer hunter, so come November/December the truck is used to get him to the woods and hopefully to transport a deer home at the end of the day.  To protect the truck box from dents, dings and all other hazards from using a truck as it was meant to be used, we always have a bedliner installed from day one.  During  that deer season I mentioned, the temperatures are below freezing most of the time, so it isn’t always easy to clean the back of the truck – the liner makes it easier.

Secondly, we purchase rolls of carpet from an auto store or Walmart if they happen to have it.  These rolls of carpet are 3 feet wide and I believe 10 feet long.  We fit this carpet to cover all carpeting inside the vehicle.  It is fairly lightweight and cuts easily.  It doesn’t fray, so it holds up very well and protects your vehicle carpet from mud and melting snow and any stains that may occur.  It takes a little time to cut the carpet to fit door to door, but it is well worth it.

Finally, and in our opinion, the most valuable accessory we buy to protect our vehicle interior is custom fit seat covers.  We purchase these covers and install them within weeks of our vehicle purchase to protect the upholstery.  When we removed the seat covers a couple of days ago, the seats look just as they did when we purchased the truck new!  We use our truck as a truck, but we are also careful to treat it with respect.

All of these things together keep the interior of our vehicles in like new condition.  Of course, we also take good care of the exterior of our truck with washes, waxes and a good truck cover from snjcarcovers.com.
